Hindus under attack in Sindh’s Ghotki district over Quran desecrating

Ghotki Sindh: Communal tensions ran high in Sindh’s Ghotki district on Wednesday, 27 July 2016 after a Hindu man was arrested for allegedly desecrating Quran a day earlier. Islamic clerics Bharchundi Peers are pointing fingers at the Hindu community which has made the community fearful of its safety. Many members of the Hindu community have started staying indoors due to the rumors set by the Bharchundi Peers that a Hindu could be behind this desecration.

While two Hindu men were shot having tea at a stall in Ghotki’s town of Mirpur Mathelo during an attack by a mob after hearing Hindus are behind it. One of the victims, 17-year-old Dewan Sateesh Kumar, succumbed to his injuries while his friend Avinash is in a critical condition, police said.

According to locals, Amar Lal, a Hindu, entered a mosque located on Reharki road and allegedly torched copies of the Holy Quran. While exiting the mosque, some passersby spotted him and realising what he had done, caught hold of him and handed him over to the police after beating him blue.

However, the Bharchundi Peers and other Islamic radicals are saying that a Hindu man committed the blasphemy by entering a mosque and setting fire to Quran the truth seems to be that the alleged Hindu man had actually converted to Islam four years ago!

According to Daily Awami Awaz Sindhi newspaper, the person who is arrested in Daherki incident ; Amar Lal , he is Muslim since 4 years not Hindu, because he has been converted to Islam 4 years ago!
Now question raised here, if he is Muslim now than how are you blaming Hindus??

All big and small towns of Ghotki district including Daharki, Mirpur Mathelo, Ubauro and Khan Pur Mehar remained closed on Wednesday due to communal tensions with cities deserted for the second consecutive day. a few cameramen from the electronic media covering the protest were attacked by the demonstrators, who also damaged their equipment. After news was aired about the attack on media teams, a heavy contingent of police led by Sukkur SSP Amjad Shaikh rushed to the scene and fired teargas shells and resorted to aerial firing to disperse the mob, members of which too were firing in the air.

The alleged desecrator was handed over by the Mehrab Samejo villagers and conveniently a huge number of Muslim protesters, in no time, descended to block the National Highway for 6-hours. How is it that such a huge number of people can work in coordination when the rumor has merely traveled from one ear to another? Does it not smell of a sinister campaign against the minorities in a Muslim majority nation?

Soon after the incident, protesters in most of the towns took to the roads and staged demonstrations against the alleged sacrilege. They also burned tyres, tried to ransack shops owned by Hindus and clashed with police.

Local leaders of religious parties including Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) and Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) have demanded “severe punishment” for the accused.

The violent mob pelted stones at the Rehrki Mandir and allegedly a young Hindu girl was abducted in a purported honor reparation for the blasphemy claim.

Furthermore, no statement of reassurance has been issued by any political party or anyone from the civil society so far and the media has not bothered to cover the atrocities against the Pakistani Hindus either. The ruling party PPP has strong ties with the Bharchundi Peers and is unlikely to issue a statement against them. Qaim Ali Shah is the outgoing Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh state who refused to release the zakaat (Muslim charity money) in 2014 for the Hindu kids, when they were dying of hunger and want of water in Tharparkar Sindh, CM stating that ‘Muslim charity money is only for Muslims‘.

Police had arrested over 150 people on rioting charges in overnight raids in the district, yet Hindus seems to live under insecurity and afraid to raise issue against Islamic local leaders.

Angry mob protesting against blasphemy

A First-Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the Amar Lal (mentally ill person, according to the news) under section 295 (B) of the Pakistan Penal Code, this would diffidently happen when you forcefully convert people from their religion into Islam, pretending that people will follow and like it but the truth is that it won’t work on some people and finally he showed his anger on Quran, the root for conversion and reason for his mental health!

Once again the Islamic state of Pakistan had proved by doing nothing for the Hindu victims who have been shot at and murdered by these protesters. So where should the Hindus go, who will provide justice to victims and safety to Hindu community?
